Tricolia retrolineata sp. n. is described from off-shore reef habitats in southern Mozambique and north-eastern South Africa. The smooth, glossy shell with bright, variegated colour pattern, as well as the convex, paucispiral, calcareous operculum and lack of interior nacre clearly place this species in the family Phasianellidae. The bulimoid shape of the shell, combined with its small size and lack of capillary lines in the colour pattern are typical of the genus Tricolia s.l.

Four acanthodriline species of the genus Parachilota, namely abebaios sp. n., nkandu sp. n., uysae sp. n., and timothyi sp. n., are described and illustrated. Additional information is given on the characters, geographical range and habitat of the earlier known six Parachilota species: editha, hottentotianus, karkloofi, minimus, wahlbergi, and warreni. The shape and number of spermathecal diverticula were considered as the diagnostic characters of studied species, and three species groups are recognized: unilobate, bilobate and multilobate. Species endemism is noted.

Three new genera of sac spiders of the subfamily Trachelinae (Corinnidae) are described from southern Africa. Fuchiba gen. n. is represented by F. aquilonia sp. n. (type species), F. capensis sp. n., F. montana sp. n., F. similis sp. n., F. tortilis sp. n. and F. venteri sp. n. All species are endemic to South Africa except for F. aquilonia sp. n., which is also recorded from Mozambique and Botswana, and F. montana sp. n., which is known from Lesotho. Fuchibotulus gen. n. is represented by F. bicornis sp. n. from South Africa (type species) and F. kigelia sp. n. from South Africa and southern Mozambique, Poachelas gen. n. is represented by three new species, and two species groups are recognised based on leg morphology. The striatus species group is represented by P. striatus sp. n. (type species, South Africa) and P. solitarius sp. n. (Zimbabwe). The montanus species group, represented by P. montanus sp. n., is endemic to South Africa. The three genera show different microhabitat preferences. Representatives of Fuchiba gen. n. and Fuchibotulus gen. n. were collected primarily by pitfall trapping or by hand from leaf litter in various biomes, while representatives of Poachelas gen. n. were collected primarily from the base of grass tussocks, or occasionally by sweep-netting in grassland and savannah. Identification keys to new species are provided for each genus.

A previous list of scorpions from the Brandberg Massif and vicinity, north-western Namibia (Omaruru District. Erongo Region), is updated, based on a survey of the Massif and surrounding areas (the region delimited by 21°00′S–21°30′S and 14°00′–15°00′E) conducted during three separate expeditions, and augmented by an examination of material in museum collections. More than 1000 specimens, representing more than 100 point-locality records, were examined for the study. Notes on the ecology and distribution of the scorpions on the Massif and surrounding areas are provided. Excluding one dubious record, 20 scorpion species in seven genera (Brandbergia, Lisposoma, Hottentotta, Parabuthus, Uroplectes, Hadogenes, and Opistophthalmus) of four families (Bothriuridae, Buthidae, Liochelidae, Scorpionidae) are recorded from the area, which presently has the richest scorpion fauna in Namibia, if not southern Africa, and ranks among those with the richest scorpion faunas in the world. The high diversity of scorpions on the Brandberg Massif and vicinity is attributed to the heterogeneity of landforms, substrata and habitats in the area. The scorpions of the Massif and surrounding areas may be classified into seven ecomorphotypes, using every available niche. The species richness of the scorpion fauna is inversely correlated with altitude. The greatest diversity of genera and species occurs at the base of the Massif and in the surrounding areas, and decreases towards the summit. Five species occur in the area surrounding the Massif but not at its base, five at its base (below 500 m) but not on its slopes, two on its lower slopes (500–1000 m), but not on its middle slope (1000–1500 m), upper slope (1500–2000 m) or summit (above 2000 m), and two on its summit, upper and middle slopes only. Only five species occur from the base to the summit of the Massif.

The harvestman fauna of the Western Soutpansberg was investigated during two collecting trips. Comments are made on the variability, ecology and remarkable morphological features of the collected material. Characters are displayed and differences to type series are highlighted. Monomontia neglecta sp. n. is described from material housed at the Natal Museum. Metabiantes leighi Pocock, 1902 is recorded for the first time for the Soutpansberg area. A species list is provided, listing all known records and the state of endemism. The relative species richness of the eastern Soutpansberg is discussed in comparison with the western area.

A new species of Afrocamilla is described from a series of females from the Bale Mountains in southeastern Ethiopia. The new species is unique within the Camillidae in having markedly swollen fore femora with a posteroventral protrusion of cuticle bearing a dagger-like spine on each femur. The ornamentation of the fore femora of other Camillidae is reviewed. Their possible functions in A. femorata sp. n. are evaluated, and based on the position of the spines it is suggested that they may be used to assist will) movement over uneven substrates or for breaking open dung pellets for egg deposition.

Parapachycerina Stuckenberg, a genus of small, usually yellow-orange sapromyziform lauxaniids (Diptera: Lauxaniidae) restricted to the Old World, is redescribed. The African and Malagasy representatives are revised, with four new species described: P. bispina sp. n., P. infuscata sp. n., P. lalitra sp. n. and P. talea sp. n. There are now five Afrotropical Parapachycerina species, including the type species, P. munroi Stuckenberg, 1971. Further, the paper provides an identification key to the Afrotropical species, a summary of the available biological information, and preliminary remarks on the phylogenetic relationships of the genus.

The genus Meuffelsia Grichanov, gen. n. is described from South Africa to accommodate two new species, M. erasmusorum Grichanov. sp. n. and M. manningi Grichanov, sp. n. The new genus has been placed in the subfamily Peloropeodinae, and is considered close to the genera Micromorphus and Peloropeodes. Brief information on the habitat of M. erasmusorum is provided; in general, representatives of the new genus seem to prefer mesic riparian environments. A key to Afrotropical peloropeodine and allied genera of long-legged flies is compiled, and characters of the new genus are discussed.

The Afrotropical species of Trichardis Hermann, 1906 are reviewed, and the first species to be recorded from the Oriental Region is described. Brief descriptions are provided for all Afrotropical species studied, and keys supplied for their identification. The following new species are described: Afrotropical T. abdelkuri (Yemen), crassipala (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger), eburacta (Ivory Coast, Nigeria), effrena (Namibia, South Africa), glabra (Gambia), hesperia (Gambia, Senegal), lavignei (Somalia), malawi (Malawi, Tanzania, Zimbabwe), mellina (Eritrea), ornata (Chad), similis (Malawi), spicata (Mozambique), zinidi (Kenya, Tanzania); Oriental T. indica (India). The previously described species are redescribed: T. apicalis Oldroyd, 1974; cribrata (Loew, 1858); grisescens Engel, 1924; katangaensis Oldroyd, 1970; leucocoma (Wulp, 1899); nigrescens (Ricardo, 1903); picta Hermann, 1906; pohli Geller-Grimm, 2002; rueppelii (Wiedemann, 1828); terminalis Oldroyd, 1974; testacea (Macquart, 1838); turneri Oldroyd, 1974. A lectotype of Hoplistomera leucocoma Wulp, 1899 has been designated. The following new synonymies have been established: Trichardis lucifer Oldroyd, 1974 = Trichardis picta Hermann, 1906; Triclis rufescens Austen, 1914 = Trichardis leucocoma (Wulp, 1899).

Hitherto unknown adult female and the immature stages (egg, 2ⁿd and 3^rd instar larvae) of Aulacigaster africana Barraclough, 1993, from South Africa are described and illustrated. Submarginal lateral setae of female 8^th sternite are strong, ordered in one row, and far less numerous than in A. leucopeza. Eggs are asymmetrically and broadly oval in lateral view, the dorsal part with a pair of dark flanges, and medial hatching strip, with dark cellules in more or less two rows. The lateral and ventral parts of the egg have thin, partly confluent longitudinal ribs. The anterior spiracle of 3^rd instar larva has 15 or 16 pairs of twig-like processes (6–8 pairs in A. leucopeza). The mandible is long and curved, bearing two pairs of accessory teeth. The parastomal bar is long, thin and dorsally curved at its middle; the intermediate sclerite consists of three parts (the posteroventral one clearly divided into an anterior ventral and a posterior longish section); there is an additional long sclerite, of an intricate form, between the intermediate sclerite and mandible. The 2^nd instar differs from the 3^rd instar larva in that the mandible has no accessory teeth. The dorsal cornu is very short: only the long ventral process of the intermediate sclerite seems to be characteristic.
