Abstract

A distinctive new Eriospermum, E. aridicola G. Will. is described. It has close affinities with E. namaquanum Marloth ex P.L. Perry which occurs towards the southwest of the new species in a completely different habitat niche. The new species possesses an unusually large leaf and appears to be endemic to the arid mountains bordering the Orange River about 15 km due east of Sendelingsdrif. A detailed line drawing displaying the morphology of the new species is included.
