Abstract

The plant described below was found along a minor road in the Kajiado District of Kenya, about 65 km south of the capital city, Nairobi. It is an unpaved road that leads to a marble quarry, and beyond that to the edge of the eastern escarpment of the Rift Valley, passing through an inhabited area called Elangata Wuas. An undescribed species of Euphorbia was found on a rocky hill along this road some years ago, and subsequently described as Euphorbia serendipita (Newton, 1993). The Sansevieria was collected in May 1999 in an area of shrubs and small trees alongside the road, with ground vegetation heavily grazed by domestic livestock.
