Abstract

The last instar larva and pupa of the metalmark butterfly Dachetola azora (Godart) (Lepidoptera: Riodinidae) are described and illustrated for the first time. Mature larvae feed at night on leaves of the mistletoe Struthanthus sp. (Loranthaceae), remaining hidden during the day on the bark of the host plant stem, where pupation occurs. Morphological and behavioral traits here described are compared with those known for other putatively related genera in Riodinini.
