Mosses collected in Clinton County, central Pennsylvania encompassed 162 species, 81 genera and 36 families.

Campylopus tallulensis, Didymodon rigidulus, Grimmia anodon, G. muehlenbeckii, and Pohlia longicolla are reported for the first time from Pennsylvania. Ditrichum rhynchostegium and Orthotrichum lescurii are newly confirmed from the Commonwealth. Racomitrium heterostichum var. gracilescens (= R. affine) is excluded from Pennsylvania. The specimen upon which this report was based is R. venustum. There are currently 443 moss taxa documented from Pennsylvania.

The type specimen of the overlooked lichen Biatorella kulshanensis Herre was examined and is shown to be synonymous with the well-known Sporastatia testudinea (Ach.) Massai.

I discovered balls of Grimmia ovalis Lind. growing in bunchgrass communities of the central Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon in the spring of 2005. Although this species is found in many western states, the discovery of this unattached form appears to be new to North America. Hypotheses of moss ball creation are reviewed from existing literature and are evaluated as mechanisms in the creation of these particular moss balls.

An overview of the lichen type collection at the Duke University Herbarium (DUKE) is presented, including a list of holotypes of species described by lichenologists affiliated with Duke, as well as types from the Harmand Herbarium collection at Duke. Forty-nine new county moss records and 6 new county liverworts records are listed for Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. Species of interest include Anacamptodon splachnoides, Andreaea ruprestris, and Schistidium dupretii.

This report validates the discovery of a new Lecanora species from Assateague Island National Park, Worcester County, MD and Cladonia robbinsii Evans from Wicomico County, MD on the lower eastern shore of the Delmarva Peninsula. The C. robbinsii was found along a woodland road and sandy, sterile overhang in a loblolly pine, Pinus taeda L., forest. Lecanora rugosella Zahlbr. was collected on the bark of an Acer sp. and together with Cladonia robbinsii, are reported as two new lichen species from the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
