An offshore backfilling plough is used for backfill by laying pipelines in seabed trenches. Fenders are one of the primarily components of an offshore backfilling plough. Under constant working performance conditions, reducing its working resistance can effectively save materials and improve its safety factor. By using an offshore working environment, the mechanical structure can be improved reasonably, and the working resistance can be reduced effectively. With reference to the theory of vortex formation, the mechanical structure of the fender is optimized by cutting holes in the fender. The previous engineering application and design analysis shows that the simulation results have certain trends guiding values for the actual data. In this work, with the help of modern and mature simulation software, the working resistance of the fender is estimated and verified. Comparing the analysis results of different models shows that the best scheme is the five perforation fender. A new mechanical structure of the fender is produced by this improved design.
