Abstract

A new Caribbean cicada Carineta acclivis Sanborn, new species is described and illustrated. This is the second species of Carineta Amyot & Audinet-Serville, 1843 described from Martinique and the Lesser Antilles. Carineta martiniquensis Davis, 1934 is illustrated and distinguished from the new species. The adults of both cicada species on Martinique are active in forest habitats and have extended emergence periods during the year but appear to be separated by an altitudinal gradient.
