Abstract

An American kestrel and barn owl were captured and eaten by red-tailed hawks during two separate encounters on San Clemente Island, California. There are few reports in the literature documenting red-tailed hawks taking other raptors as food items. These depredation events are likely rare, with one occurrence caused by human disturbance.
