The 2 subgenera of Archytas, Archytas sensu stricto and Nemochaeta Wulp, including 13 species, are revised for America north of Mexico. A historical review is presented for North American species.

Adult Archytas, especially the females, have been known for their uniformity. Species complexes such as the “analis complex” of Curran (1928) have plagued taxonomists for years, with no useable characters and keys of questionable utility. Species determinations of females could only be done by association with males in series, pairs in copula, or simply by guess work and distributional data.

This study incorporates available data from past works, along with new genitalic characters for females of many species. Keys and descriptions are provided for the tribe Dejeaniini and the genus Archytas. One species is described as new and 3 species relegated to synonomy.
