Cheilolejeunea evansii (Tayl.) R.M.Schust. was excluded from the World Checklist of Hornworts and Liverworts (WCL; Söderström et al. 2016) since it was considered an invalid name. A closer look at the publication reveals that this is not the case. Although Schuster (1980) did not state that it was a new combination, a full and clear reference to the basionym was given. The name has been used and the taxon recognized several times in recent literature, so we here re-instate it pending further taxonomic investigation. It has only been reported from North and South Carolina, USA.
