About

The American Malacological Society is a dynamic international society with an active interest in the study and conservation of mollusks. Professional malacologists, students, and people devoted to observing, photographing, and learning about mollusks belong to AMS (formerly the American Malacological Union). The history of the organization dates back to its founding in 1931. Continuing interests of the AMS include:

  • Encouraging students with awards for outstanding papers and posters at each annual meeting,
  • Recognizing the important role of molluscan enthusiasts who are encouraged to be active members,
  • An annual meeting including a book auction and reprint sales supporting the symposium fund,
  • Conservation of mollusks; the sale of shell products is prohibited at our meetings, and the Conservation Committee monitors problems relating to molluscan populations, and
  • Publishing the American Malacological Bulletin twice each year with peer-reviewed contributed articles and symposium papers
