The Palaeontological Society of Japan was established in 1935 with the aim of promoting and encouraging educational and scientific activities in the paleontological field in Japan. The society now has ca. 1,000 members including professionals, students, amateurs and other persons who are interested in paleontology. We also have a number of overseas members. Since its foundation, the Society has consistently played an important role in advancing paleontological research with the help and support of Society members in overseas countries and in Japan. Membership is open to everyone who is interested in the paleontological sciences. The Society holds a conference twice a year in different locations in Japan, presents various awards, and publishes an international journal in English, Paleontological Research, every three months and a domestic journal in Japanese Kaseki (Fossils) every six months.
