Integrated pest management (IPM) programs for potato leafhopper in alfalfa have been implemented widely throughout the midwestern and northeastern United States. A 1985 survey of Extension Specialists in 12 states compared IPM programs for potato leafhopper. Sampling plans and ecvonomic thresholds used in decision making varied among states, however most states' decision-making guidelines were very similar. Less than 10% of the total alfalfa acreage in states surveyed were enrolled in a formalized scouting program for potato leafhopper. Constraints to IPM program implementation were also examined.
