A new species, Chorthippus (Altichorthippus) taishanensis sp. nov. from Shandong Province of China, is described in this paper. The new species is similar to Chorthippus (Altichorthippus) intermedius (Bey-Bienko, 1925) but it differs from the latter by: lateral carinae of pronotum obtuse angled in prozona and undeveloped in metazona, inner side of hind femur without dark sloping stripe and base of hind tibia not black. The type specimens are deposited in the College of Life Science, Hebei University, Baoding China.
Pseudobium yagmuri sp. n. from Anatolia is described, illustrated, and distinguished from related congeners. Additional records of Pseudobium species from Turkey are presented.
A new genus of Idiocerinae leafhoppers, Bolivianoscopus gen.nov., is described herein, to accommodate the species Idiocerus costalisOsborn, 1924. The only type specimen is from Provincia del Sara, Bolivia, and is housed in the collection of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Pittsburgh, USA.
Two new synonymies of bees of the genus Colletes described from “Japan” with species from eastern North America were detected: Colletes kudonisCockerell, 1927 syn. nov. = Colletes simulans armatusPatton, 1879 and Colletes mitchelliStephen, 1954 syn. nov. = Colletes speculiferusCockerell, 1927. The identity of the type locality “Japan” and the taxonomic status of Colletes speculiferus are discussed.
The morphology of the spermatheca of Dolycoris baccarum (Linnaeus, 1758) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) was examined using both light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The spermatheca of D. baccarum is characterized by the presence of a spherical spermathecal bulb that appears sclerotized and is covered with multiple pores. The spermathecal duct, pumping region with distal and proximal flanges and dilation of spermathecal duct are illustrated. The pumping region contains both distal and proximal flanges. The spermathecal dilation is striated and the walls are muscular. The proximal area of the spermathecal duct is fairly long relative to the distal area and is close to the opening of the vagina. Two alternately placed V-shaped sclerites and two ring sclerites occur in the genital chamber.
The eastern North American dobsonfly, Corydalus cornutus (L.), is reported for the first time from 25 counties in West Virginia, U.S.A. Additionally, 30 previous county records from West Virginia are included in this investigation. Larvae, known as hellgrammites, have been recorded from 100% of the counties in the state. The emergence period for dobsonflies in West Virginia extends from 16 June (Kanawha County) to 5 August (Jefferson County).
A new species of water scavenger beetle, Cymbiodyta orientalis Jia & Short sp. n., is described from southern China. A primarily Nearctic group, this species represents the first record of the genus from the Oriental region. It was collected in a temporary pool with grass and detritus.
Two new species of the genus Torodora Meyrick, T. bacillaris M. Wang and Xiong sp. nov. and T. styloidea H. Wang and M. Wang sp. nov. are described, illustrated and compared with their related species, T. galera and T. pseudogalera. T. bacillaris sp. nov. is characterized by juxta with a pair of long, heavily sclerotized lateral lobes; cucullus with somewhat convex outer margin, and not triangular; cornuti consisting of a long row of spicules. T. styloidea sp. nov. is distinguished from its congeners by lateral lobes of juxta long, strongly sclerotized, and expanded apically; sacculus with a U-shaped concavity before cucullus; vesica with numerous spicules.
Four new species of Olidiana McKamey in the tribe Coelidiini are described from Thailand. They are spimera, anisota, nuda and paridens. A checklist of the known species from Thailand is also included. Olidiana spina (Zhang) is a new synonym of Olidiana praetexta (Distant).
Axysta austra sp. n. from Australia, A. indica sp. n. from India, and A. nikita sp. n. from Thailand are described. The synonymy of A. americana Clausen with A. nigrifacies (Miyagi) is proposed. The genus Axysta is recorded from the Australasian and Oriental Regions for the first time. Keys to genera in Hyadinini and species of Axysta are provided, as are illustrations of all species.
Listrognathus mactator (Thunberg, 1824) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) was determined as a larva-pupa parasitoid of the almond pest, Cimbex quadrimaculatus (O. F. Müller, 1766) (Hymenoptera: Cimbicidae). The parasitoid is also recorded from Turkey for the first time.
