A list of identified ptyctimous mites (Acari, Oribatida) from Mexico and Peru, including 12 species from seven genera and five families, is presented. Of these taxa, two species are new for science, and Protophthiracarus baloghi and Atropacarus (Hoplophorella) brachys are recorded in the Mexican fauna for the first time. Mesotritia cozumelensis Niedbała sp. nov. (Oribotritiidae) differs from congeners by a combination of the following characters: two pairs of parallel lateral carinae on the prodorsum; rostral setae situated between interlamellar and lamellar setae, but nearer to lamellar setae; very long exobothridial setae, five pairs of genital setae; two pairs of anal and three pairs of adanal setae; setae ad₁ very long; equal distance between adanal setae. Arphthicarus simplex Niedbała sp. nov. (Steganacaridae) is distinguishable from congeners by the long line in extension of the sinus and by the distally curved rostral setae.

Achipteria sgardelisi sp. nov. and its morphological ontogeny is described and illustrated. The adult of this species has a clavate bothridial seta, with a barbed head distally, which is not common in Achipteria Berlese, 1885; in most species the head is smooth. Notogastral setae c₂ and la are long, while the other setae are short, and rounded porose areas are present, of which Aa is the largest. Genua I and II lack anteroventral apophysis, genu IV is approximately as long as tibia IV, and setae bv″ and v″ on femur I and l′ on femur III are short. All prodorsal setae of juveniles are minute. Most gastronotal setae of larva are short, thick and barbed, except for minute c-series and smooth h₂, whereas most gastronotal setae of nymphs are minute, except for short, thick and barbed lp and h-series. Leg claws of all instars are smooth. The morphology of the adult and juveniles of A. sgardelisi is compared with congeners.

This research describes the infestation by ticks and lice in free-living coatis (Nasua nasua Linnaeus, 1766) with sylvatic and synanthropic habits living at the Iguaçu National Park (INP), state of Parana, southern Brazil. During the months of September 2014 and from March to April 2015, ticks and lice were collected from 86 free-living coatis from INP. Among the animals analyzed, 99% (85/86) were infested with ectoparasites, Amblyomma spp. larvae (n=23), nymphs of Amblyomma brasiliense (n=77), Amblyomma coelebs (n=427) and Haemaphysalis juxtakochi (n=6) being observed, as well as Amblyomma ovale adults (n=46). Lice were found in lower prevalence (13%, 11/86), nymphs (n=31) and adults (n=9) of Neotrichodectes pallidus. Summary results show feral coatis with sylvatic and synanthropic habits as competent hosts for ixodid ticks and lice, arthropods responsible for the transmission of pathogens for carnivores, others wildlife and humans. This paper presents the first record of H. juxtakochi infesting coatis in Brazil.

A new myobiid mite species Radfordia (Hesperomyobia) akodon sp. nov. is described from Akodon varius Thomas (Rodentia: Cricetidae: Sigmodontinae) from Bolivia. This new species is known only from a female which differs from those of Radfordia (H.) sigmodontis Radford from Sigmodon hispidus Ray and Ord, and Radfordia (H.) sigmomys Bochkov and Fain from Sigmodon alstoni (Thomas) by the following features. In R. (H.) akodon sp. nov., setae vi are 50 µm long and 7 µm wide (vs. 10–12 µm long and 2 µm wide in R. sigmodontis, and 23–25 µm long and 2 µm wide in R. sigmomys), dorsal idiosomal setae si, se, c1, c2, d1, and d2 are 5–10 µm wide (vs. 2–3 µm wide in R. sigmodontis and R. sigmomys), and setae e1 are 2.6 times longer than f1 (vs. subequal in R. sigmodontis and R. sigmomys). In addition, Radfordia (Hesperomyobia) vandenberghi Fain and Lukoschus is newly recorded herein from Oligoryzomys flavescens (Waterhouse) and Oligoryzomys sp. (Rodentia: Cricetidae: Sigmodontinae) in Bolivia. It is suggested that this mite species is associated exclusively with hosts of the genus Oligoryzomys Bangs.

The mite family Laelapidae has been little studied in the Pacific Islands. This paper presents a new species and a new record of the genus Cosmolaelaps Berlese, 1903 from Fiji and Tonga. Cosmolaelaps dioscorea sp. nov. was collected from yam (Plantae: Dioscoreaceae: Dioscorea sp.) in Fiji and Cosmolaelaps paulista Freire & Moraes, 2007 from taro (Plantae: Araceae: Colocasia Schott) in Fiji and Tonga. The new species is described.

Stenosternum cordata sp. nov. and Stenosternum bifurcata sp. nov., new to science, are described, which is the first record of Hoplomegistidae from Asia. Stenosternum cordata sp. nov. is distinguished by its heart-shaped latigynal shield with two pairs of setae along the lateral margin, and two pairs of setae along the posterior margin of the sternal shield. Stenosternum bifurcata sp. nov. is distinguished by having remarkable bifurcate corniculus, six pairs of setae on the sternal shield and three pairs setae on the latigynal shield. The family Hoplomegistidae Camin & Gorirossi, 1955 is redefined and a key to adult females of species is provided.

Stigmaeus nahavandicus sp. nov. collected from soil under corn, Zea mays (Poaceae) is described from Nahavand city, Hamedan province, Iran and the female and male of Cheylostigmaeus howellsi Evans is redescribed.

The present study is based on oribatid mite materials (Acari, Oribatida) collected from Taiwan in 2009–2010. A list of identified taxa, including 34 species from 30 genera and 21 families, is presented; of these, the subspecies Tectocepheus velatus sarekensis, the species Suctobelbella (Flagrosuctobelba) cf. elegantula, Paralamellobates misella, Protoribates paracapucinus, Perscheloribates nodosus and Scheloribates (Bischeloribates) dalawaeus, the subgenera Uracrobates (Parauracrobates) and Scheloribates (Bischeloribates), and the genera Scapheremaeus and Brassiella are recorded in the fauna of Taiwan for the first time. The species Camisia hamulifera and Fissicepheus defectus are recorded in the Oriental region for the first time. Two new species belonging to the genera Galumna (Galumnidae) and Uracrobates (Mochlozetidae) are described. Galumna (Galumna) tsengi sp. nov. differs from G. (G.) makilingensis Ermilov, Corpuz-Raros & Tolstikov, 2014 by the clavate heads of the bothridial setae, slightly dilated porose areas Aa in posterolateral parts, not boomerang shaped, and by the erect interlamellar setae, which are shorter than the lamellar setae. Uracrobates (Parauracrobates) newtaipeiensis sp. nov. differs from U. (P.) truncatus Ermilov & Martens, 2015 by the absence of well-developed lateral teeth on the lamellar cusps, foveolate notogaster and anogenital region and the medium length of the anal and adanal setae.

We present the results of research into the distribution and migration of three species of mites in the genus Labidostomma after the Pleistocene glaciation period in Europe. This study primarily focuses on the area of Poland, which was affected by the Scandinavian glacier four times. The migration trajectories of the species have been reconstructed on the basis of the current distribution, their altitude preferences, the sex ratio in populations of Labidostomma luteum, and the body size differences in different populations of L. luteum and L. denticulata. These species all have distributional limits in Poland: L. luteum—southeastern boundary, L. denticulata—northern, and Labidostomma cornuta—northwestern. Labidostomma luteum is a typically lowland species, L. cornuta occurred from 300 to 700 m a.s.l., and L. denticulata inhabits mountainous areas. The youngest populations of L. luteum and L. denticulata contain the smallest individuals. The number of males in populations of L. luteum is lower in northern areas of Europe, where the glacier has already retreated and the smaller specimens of L. luteum and L. denticulata were collected in the most remote habitats from the southern refugia where they succeeded in survival during the glaciation period.

Although almost 50 species of Galumnidae (Oribatida) have been recorded in Japan, more species remain undiscovered. In the present work, we propose two new species from southern Japan, Trichogalumna boninensis sp. nov. and T. ohkuboi sp. nov., and provide an additional description of T. imperfecta Ohkubo, 1984. Trichogalumna boninensis sp. nov. can be distinguished from other closely related species by the smaller body size, and the large granular ornamentation along the hinges of the pteromorphs. Trichogalumna ohkuboi sp. nov. can be distinguished from other closely related species by the absence of granular ornamentation on the proximal margin of the dorsal surface of the pteromorph, the striated genital plates, the absence of granular ornamentation on the humeral region of the notogaster, the short lamellar and interlamellar setae, the distantly located porose areas of A₁ and A₂, and the different number of epimeral setae. Furthermore, we present data on habitat ecology and biogeography of Japanese species of Trichogalumna, and a key is provided for identification of all species in the world.

Leptus (Leptus) brasilicus sp. nov. and L. (L.) planaltensis sp. nov. are described and illustrated from larval mites collected in Central Brazil.

Water mites of the genus Neumania have been found worldwide. In the present study we used morphological data and DNA barcoding to describe a new species of the genus Neumania, N. kyrgyzica sp. nov. from Kyrgyzstan. The results supported the genetic separation between the new species and species examined in this study (N. deltoides, N. imitata, N. limosa, N. spinipes and N. vernalis). The lowest K2P divergence (11.7%) was found between the new species and N. limosa (Koch, 1836), a species widely distributed in the Palaearctic region. Morphologically, the new species seems to be most similar to N. alticola (Stoll, 1887), an abundant and widespread species in the extreme northern Neotropics.
