The larval stages of phytoseiid mites (Acari: Phytoseiidae) are rarely considered in taxonomic descriptions. The presence of denticles on the palpi and legs is rarely documented in any developmental stages of mites of this family. To address this gap, the presence of denticles was evaluated on the appendages of larvae of the following twelve species: Amblydromalus limonicus (Garman and McGregor), Amblyseius herbicolus (Chant), Amblyseius orientalis Ehara, Amblyseius taiguensis Liu, Ma and Fan, Euseius utilis (Liang and Ke), Neoseiulus benjamini (Schicha), Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor), Neoseiulus setarius Ma, Meng and Fan, Neoseiulus womersleyi (Schicha), Neoseiulus zwoelferi (Dosse), Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot and Phytoseius hongkongensis Swirski and Shechter. We identified and described the denticles on the palps, basis capitulum, and specific leg segments of these species, and hypothesized that the denticle rows might potentially be used for tearing open their own epidermis during hatching.

Citrus leprosis mite [Brevipalpus yothersi Baker (Acari: Tenuipalpidae)] is traditionally controlled with acaricide applications using a high volume of spray solution (> 2000 L.ha^-1). However, high spray solution volumes can generate water waste and environmental contamination. An experiment was set up in a sweet orange orchard located in the municipality of Taquaral, São Paulo, Brazil, aiming to optimize the spray solution volume required for more efficient control of the leprosis mite. The experiment was conducted from December 2020 to July 2022. Two spray solution volumes were evaluated: 100 and 180 mL m^–3 of plant canopy. In total, seven acaricide applications were performed. During the experiment, we assessed the incidence and infestation of the leprosis mite. Additionally, at the end of the experiment, we counted the number of plants and fallen fruits exhibiting leprosis symptoms. The treatment with a spray volume of 180 mL m^–3 was more effective in controlling mites, as the incidence and infestation of B. yothersi were lower in this treatment. Moreover, this treatment resulted in fewer plants with fallen fruits and a reduced number of fallen fruits showing leprosis symptoms.

Proprioseiopsis asetus and Amblyseius swirskii are excellent natural enemies of plant-feeding mites and small pests. In order to clarify the safety of the acaricide spirodiclofen to the predatory mites P. asetus and A. swirskii, here, we investigated the toxicity of the acaricide on the pest mite T. urticae (nymphs and adult females) and on both species of predatory mites, P. asetus and A. swiskii (eggs, nymphs, and female adults) by using the spray, slide-dip, and leaf residual toxicity methods, compared the selective toxicity and assessed the safety to these natural enemies. The results demonstrated that the corrected mortality in P. asetus and A. swirskii female adults was <5% at recommended spirodiclofen concentrations in the spray method. In the leaf residual toxicity method, P. asetus and A. swirskii egg-hatching rates did not differ significantly from the pure water control group. In the slide-dip method, spirodiclofen lethal concentration 50 (LC₅₀) in P. asetus and A. swirskii female adults was noted to be 9,494.875 and 3,064.187 mg·L^–1, respectively. In the spray method, spirodiclofen LC₅₀ in P. asetus and A. swirskii nymphs was found to be 4,292.664 and 1,081.609 mg·L^–1, respectively, and that in T. urticae female adults and nymphs was 55.189 and 40.862 mg·L^–1, respectively. Spiroclofen selective toxicity ratios (STRs) in P. asetus female adults–T. urticae and P. asetus nymphs–T. urticae were 172.013 and 105.053, respectively, indicating that spiroclofen has a high positive selectivity toward the pest T. urticae and its natural enemy P. asetus. In contrast, spiroclofen STRs in A. swirskiis female adults–T. urticae and A. swirskiis nymphs–T. urticae were 55.522 and 26.470, respectively, indicating spiroclofen has a moderate positive selectivity toward the pest T. urticae and its natural enemy A. swirskii. In the safety evaluation, the spirodiclofen safety factor for P. asetus female adults and nymphs was 158.248–237.37 and 71.544–107.317, respectively, whereas that for A. swirskii female adults and nymphs was 50.070–76.605 and 18.027–27.040 respectively. All spirodiclofen safety factor values were much higher than 5, indicating that spirodiclofen is highly safe for P. asetus and A. swirskii; in particular, spirodiclofen is safer for P. asetus than for A. swirskii.

The fossil representatives of the family Resinacaridae (Acari: Heterostigmata) from the Late Eocene Rovno amber are reviewed. Three new species are described in the genus Resinacarus Vitzthum, namely, R. longipilis sp. nov., R. vitzthumi sp. nov., and R. striatus sp. nov. A new genus and species, Pararesinacarus krczali gen. and sp. nov. are also described. The extant species Pararesinacarus aradii (Krczal) comb. nov. was moved from Resinacarus. All active stages of the extant type species of the genus Resinacarus, R. resinatus Vitzthum, are redescribed based on type material. A key to genera and species of Resinacaridae is also provided.

A pair of intriguing phoretic instances are the burying beetle and Poecilochirus mites. Their interaction is environment-dependent and can be either mutualistic or antagonistic hostile depending on various biological and physical circumstances. In this study, we sequenced the complete mitogenomes of two Poecilochirus mite species, P. davydovae and P. mrciaki, which are associated with burying beetles, using Illumina HiSeq sequencing technology. Each mitochondrial genome comprised 37 typical genes, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and one control region (CR). The size of these mitogenomes were determined to be 14,489 bp and 14,517 bp, respectively. These two mitochondrial genomes contain a notable AT bias in their nucleotide composition, with positive AT and negative GC skews in the deflection index of mitochondrial genomes, and a unique incomplete stop codon T- in both protein-coding genes. The DHU arm of tRNA-S1 (AGN) only forms a simple loop structure, while the secondary structures of 21 tRNA genes in both species showed the conventional cloverleaf structures, like those of most metazoans. The phylogenetic tree of Gamasina was constructed using Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference based on two rRNA genes and 13 PCGs. Based on the existing data, the Parasitidae forms a monophyletic, and Poecilochirus and Parasitus are closely related, possibly belonging to the same genus.

The present study is based on oribatid mite material collected from litter in highlands bamboo location in Bale Mountains National Park, Southeastern Ethiopia. A list of 35 species belonging to 27 genera and 19 families is presented; of these, Nothrus berlesei and Dolicheremaeus capillatus neonominatus are recorded in Ethiopia for the first time. Two new species—Coronabelba pustulata Ermilov sp. nov. and Suctobelbila quattuor Ermilov sp. nov.—are described. Coronabelba pustulata differs from the other congeneric species by the presence of densely tuberculate dorsal part of the notogaster, bordered by two longitudinal ridges. Suctobelbila quattuor differs from the other congeneric species by the presence of four longitudinal cerotegumental bands represented by sparse granules connected by cerotegumental cords on the notogaster.

The genus Schwiebea Oudemans (Sarcoptiformes: Acaridae) includes notable agricultural pests that are widely distributed across diverse ecological environments. Despite their economic significance, mites of this genus in Thailand have been insufficiently studied. This research describes a new species, Schwiebea citrae sp. nov., collected from the roots of pomelo, Citrus maxima (Burm.) Merr., contributing to the broader knowledge of acarid diversity.
