Data from literature were used to compile a checklist of the Egyptian fauna of the water scavenger beetles (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae). The checklist includes data on the type localities, references in which the species are described in detail, world and Egyptian distribution, and other references for 51 valid species belonging to 17 genera: AmphiopsErichson, 1843; Anacaena Thomson, 1859; Berosus Leach, 1817; Cercyon Leach, 1817; Chaetarthria Stephens, 1835; Dactylosternum Wollaston, 1854; Enochrus Thomson, 1859; HelocharesMulsant, 1844; HydrobiomorphaBlackburn, 1888; Hydrochara Berthold, 1827; Hydrophilus Geoffroy, 1762; Laccobius Erichson, 1837; Pachysternum Motschulsky, 1863; Paracymus Thomson, 1867; RegimbartiaZaitzev, 1908; Sphaeridium Fabricius, 1775; and SternolophusSolier, 1834. The present study provides a summary that can help as the basis for future progress in the knowledge of the Egyptian Hydrophilidae.
